 [Hong Kong, December 9 2006]: The public ticket sale for the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2007 was successfully held today at the Hong Kong Stadium. The 6,000 remaining tickets in the local ticket allocation were all sold at today's public ticket sale. Following today's successful ticket sale, over 80% of tickets for the Hong Kong Sevens 2007 have been sold in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong residents enjoyed the opportunity to purchase tickets for the event with the launch of the HKRFU's local ticket campaign in October 2006. At this time, tickets were sold through Hong Kong rugby clubs and other rugby stakeholders , sponsors and long-term event patrons in Hong Kong. Today's Public Ticket Sale marked the final opportunity for local spectators to secure their tickets for the event.
Mr Allan Payne, Tournament Director of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens commented on today's public ticket sale saying, "Our ticketing plan was put in place to ensure the greatest number of seats for Hong Kong fans. The plan has been a great success with over 80% of event tickets sold in Hong Kong. We understand that some people were not able to get tickets this year, but it is an unavoidable aspect of the success of sevens rugby in Hong Kong. We hope to welcome these fans back in 2008."
The local ticket allocation is now officially sold out. Overseas fans can still purchase packages, inclusive of tickets, through officially appointed Overseas Ticket Agents and through the event's co-title sponsor - Cathay Pacific Airways.
The Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2007 will be held at the Hong Kong Stadium from Friday March 30 to Sunday April 1, 2007
